Cops basiert auf der gleichnamigen TV-Dokuserie von Langley Productions, die seit 1989 produziert und zur Zeit auf dem US-Sender Fox Nation ausgestrahlt wird.

Der Serien-Titeltrack Bad Boys der jamaikanischen Reggae-Band Inner Circle aus dem Jahr 1987 findet auch beim Arcadespiel Verwendung.
